BBC FILMING

We have just completed a series on working dogs with the BBC.

We were able to assist a couple of young people from the UK with their dog's, allowing them to see the life style of the Australian Stockperson.

We used many of our different training idea's in the show and put the Kippakoop working team through their paces.

The film crew were very impressed with the final result and the young people from the UK went home with a whole new experience to remember forever.

Welcome to the home of Kippakoop Working Dogs

If you love working dogs then you have come to the right place.

Partiality towards breed is not of great concern to us, rather we acknowledge that quality working dogs are there to be had among the two common working breeds, the kelpie and the border collie.

We always have pups and started dogs available, so click on the sale dogs page and see what's currently on offer. Our working dog leadership courses run throughout the year at different locations, so click the dog leadership courses page and check out one near you. As you search through this site look for the video icons to access video clips and information.

Please note this site has high quality photo and video, most video's averages 1 to 4 minutes to download depending on your connection speed.

"GRACE WINS 2011 S.A STATE CHAMPS"

Grace worked hard to secure her win, the sheep were testing all the dogs, with only the best hold and cover types reaching the finals. The yard section was a challenge, Grace hit her leads well, backing hard and fast in an effort to keep her sheep positive. Its was this combination of purpose driven work that allowed her to come out on top.

This is the second State Championships Grace has won, having just turned five she has an exciting future ahead. Grace has produced some of the best all round dogs going, two of which have been retained as new sires within the Kippakoop stud.

"Holly 3rd at 2011 S.A State Champs"

Holly is just so clever, she takes to all her work with so much courage. She has won so many Opens now and is proving that she is one of the great allrounders within the current dog world.

Holly's paddock work in the champs was a stand out, but once in the yards she showed her huge heart as she pushed and shoved her way through the race, draft and truck.

Holly has given our stud so much, she has produced some top all rounders. Her pups have been sold to homes all over Australia.

Also a big thanks to "Superior Selections Photographic Service"

for providing this great photo of Holly.

Give Ian & Wendy a call on 0409 729 254 for your photographic needs.

TWO NEW KIPPAKOOP SIRES

"KIPPAKOOP GROOVER" - Groovers is a class act. Extreme cover and hold, great distance, force and power. I believe he is one of the best dogs our stud has ever produced, his solid mind means that all his great work can be used to it's full potential.

"KIPPAKOOP ATLAS" - From the time Atlas was balanced he could be cast out of sight, he's just one of those dogs. Correct and positive in his work always looking to please. His is a strong dog who has already produced some great pups. After giving this dog a season of work I cant wait to trial him, look out.

"DUNKELD"

Thanks to the Fetherton family for hosting a great school. We had a good range of dogs and all who attended put in a real effort.

We also had Racheal Kinley from the BBC in England attend and shoot some footage for an up coming production "Working dogs around the world".

We will be looking at doing further schools at this location towards the end of the year so keep in touch and book in your spot!

Contract Stockwork

We are increasing the amount of stockwork we do this year, taking on more cattle education and droving jobs. We have been asked to handle some bigger cattle education jobs through south east S.A and have also taken up some bigger blue gum mustering jobs which i really enjoy. We have enjoyed over this winter working throughout western Victoria mustering paddocks and processing sheep and cattle. Thanks to all our clients, we have worked with you for a while now, you have kindly put up with us changing our job discription allowing us the few days here and there rather than the long weeks. We will now look to again handle the longer jobs spanning over shearing and marking times, endevouring to fit things in amoung schools and puppies.

We have put together a page dedicated to our contract work so all those who enjoy our dogs can understand our services better and see the dogs in action.

Laucke Sponsorship

We have been using Laucke products now since they brought out their great working dog products "Uncle Albers" and "Barko".

The dogs enjoy the taste and the ingredients both within "Uncle Albers" and "Barko" and always stay healthy and fit, holding their weight while in work.

It really makes us feel proud knowing Laucke has chosen to support Kippakoop Working Dogs as we continue strong within the working dog world.

We encourage all working dog owners to give "Uncle Albers" or "Barko" a try and see just how good the product is for your working dog.

Mansfield School Jan 2011

What a great school this was with lots of different people from different areas.

A big effort by all who attended, with a big thanks to Dennis and Pam Vickery for hosting a fun weekend.

We all enjoyed a great night around the camp fire as we talked about our dogs and what we had all learnt throughout the day. The old guitar even raised its head.

Working Dog School "Robertstown"

A big thankyou to Steve and Sandy from Seldomin Kelpies for hosting our school. We had a mixed group with a good range of different dogs. Great effort was put in by all who attended, well done. We will be running more schools at this location in the near future so keep an eye on the working dog leadership course page for dates.

GOGETTA SPICE 2ND AND JONES HOLLY 7TH AT THE AUSTRALIAN YARD DOG CHAMPIONSHIPS.

The Australian Yard Dog Championships was held at Westbury Tasmania this year. We travelled over there and enjoyed Tasmania alot. The championships saw a showing of top talent from around the country. We managed to get two of our dogs in the the top ten final. As it turned out little holly was the only border collie to make the final and take her place at a respectable 7th place. Spice worked well and found her spot under the nations best at 2nd. A verywell done to Micheal Johnson and "buster" for their great win.

THE VICTOIAN STATE YARD DOG CHAMPIONSHIPS

This year the state titles were held at Mansfield Victoria, a great line up and quality dogs showed their stuff on some very determined sheep. We managed to get three dogs in the state finals and finshed 4th overall. Thanks to those who showed their support such as Paul and his family, Pam/Dennis Vickery from Cullens Border Collies and those that came up for a chat. Well done to Aziza G on her run with her new border collie and also her effort on the the judging ring. If yard trialing takes your interest make the effort and have a go, its a great sport and a great place to show your working dogs talent.

Necessity and job type has allowed us to develop a strong practical dog with a high pack mentality and independent working style.

Our dogs have been selected upon their working ability, this means intense cover and hold, searching casts and an understanding that they belong to a bigger picture.

Communication is the key with any working companion and the same philosophy applies with working dogs.

All pups are well handled/wormed/and vaccinated prior to sale. Click video to see a young kelpie litter learning and playing.

We have run a successful livestock business throughout VIC, SA and NSW, which included work like cattle education, blue gum plantation retrievals, large scale mustering and most stock movement operations.

In recent times due to our success with our dogs we are now full time into dog orientated activities such as breeding, training and educating working dog owners. We have retained a small percentage of our contracting work to keep our dogs in tune and enable our working dogs to stay practical and proven.

gm

In the past our dogs are also competing in Cattle Dog Trials but more regularly in Three sheep and Yard dog trials with success. In the past three years we have trained and trialed 8 young dogs to open yard dog status as well as competed in and won many trials in SA and VIC.

One of our more recent wins was with "holly" our 2 year old border collie. Holly is now the current SA Yard Dog Champion, being the only border collie to win the event in its 27 year history.

To add to this we have also just won the Victorian State Yard Dog Championships with Barrkel Grace.

Our Working Dog Leadership Courses have been a large focus of ours over the recent years. Rather than breed dogs with less outside ability or stocksence it is our aim to lift the connection between dog and owner and give the working dog handler the tools required to work their stock in a low stress practical manner.

The courses focus largely on the connection between dog and owner and teach's people to understand how their Working Dog thinks and how best to use and lead their working companion.

Working Dog Leadership is about looking at our own faults before looking at the dog, it's about being someone worth following and letting our working dogs feed their compulsion to work through us. The result is better control, happier dogs and success in our working dog endeavors be it on the trial ground or on the station.

If you have had a great working dog don't feel you cant get another. Try not to forget the time spent and mutual respect you had with that great dog.

When searching out a new working companion purchase the dog on work you can see not the kind your told about, be ready to bend yourself so that you can allow that dog to reach its full potential.
